The Coastal Wellness Collective is pleased to invite you to a continuing education and networking event featuring professor and author Dr. Frederic Reamer.

Moral Distress and Injury in Behavioral Health: Cases, Causes, and Strategies for Prevention

Behavioral health practitioners sometimes witness, perpetrate, or fail to prevent acts that violate their deeply held beliefs. The harm that they experience is referred to as moral distress or injury. Moral distress and injury may trigger a wave of symptoms and emotions that adversely affect the practitioner: posttraumatic stress disorder; feelings of overwhelming guilt and remorse; and a sense of demoralization in the form of disheartenment, dejection, hopelessness, loss of values, and despondency. These adverse effects can be so debilitating that some practitioners consider leaving the profession they love. In this training, Dr. Frederic Reamer will discuss the concepts of moral distress, injury, and demoralization; the symptoms that can manifest; prevention, self-care, and resilience; legal and ethical obligations, including what it means to be a whistleblower; and how to develop moral courage to advocate for organizational and policy changes to prevent harm. Content of this presentation will rely on research conducted by Dr. Reamer for the NASW publication of the same title. Copies in print and eBook can be found at: https://naswpress.org/product/53654/moral-distress-and-injury-in-human-services

This presentation will be roughly three hours and will include a Q & A opportunity. Three (3) CE credits will be available to attendees through NASW. Refreshments will be available during this morning training and all guests are invited to stay for a networking lunch following the conclusion of the training. Guests are welcome to attend and current members of CWC attend for a discounted rate of just $25. Please register early as this event will be closed to new registrants once we reach maximum capacity.  We look forward to seeing you at this unique opportunity to enhance your clinical skills and connect with local providers.
